With KFC running out of chicken last week and the whole country going into meltdown – (we get it, no one wants to settle for a Burger King), we thought it was appropriate to take a look back at the most Iconic Failures of all time. Let us know if we’ve missed any in the comments below!
THE OSCARS
Heads must have rolled at PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accountancy firm employed to count ballots at the majority of Academy Awards ceremonies, when the Oscar for Best Film was mistakenly awarded to La La Land at the 2017 Oscars. Never has the phrase "You had one job!" been more appropriate.
RYANAIR
Oh the delicious irony of Ryanair disrupting thousands of holiday plans because they uh, forgot to give their own staff holidays. Oops.
FYRE FESTIVAL
A luxury festival on a remote island in the Bahamas, complete with five star accommodation and gourmet food - what could possibly go wrong? Everything apparently. The reality was disaster relief tents, barely edible sandwiches and shark infested waters with a five figure price tag. The shambles was cancelled on the first day after sewage facilities broke. Nice.
BBC JOB INTERVIEW
Public failures really don't get better than this. When Guy Goma attended the BBC to interview for a job in IT, little did he expect to be thrust onto live TV and asked his opinion on a landmark legal battle. Nope, it wasn't some crazy interview tactic, just a case of mistaken identity. To Guy's immense credit he played along reasonably well and got through the interview with a decent number of viewers none the wiser!
BBC INTERVIEW INTERRUPTION
BBC strikes again with yet another interview gone wrong, this time the interviewee gets interrupted by his own children. The video went viral on social media last year so I’d be surprised if you haven’t already seen it… On the bright side, at least they managed to interview the correct person! Definitely proof that working from home isn’t always a good idea.
EASTENDERS LIVE
Those of you who are Soap fanatics will remember this one. Eastenders had planned a special live episode to mark their 30th Anniversary and reveal who killed Lucy Beale. We all thought the big reveal would be the best part of the show – we were wrong. Actress Jo Joyner, who plays Tanya Branning, stole the spotlight when she referred to Ian Beale by his real name Adam. Not something we’re going to forget any time soon!
NOEL GALLAGHER AND THE HIGH FLYING SCISSORS?
Noel Gallagher hired someone to play the scissors on an episode of BBC Two’s Later with Jools Holland. Ok so this one isn’t necessarily a failure, but it definitely made us question Noel’s sanity…
The funniest part of this whole situation was Liam’s Twitter response, “I’m looking for somebody to peel some spuds live on stage tnight at this gig in Bethnal Green must have own peeler as you were LG x” …and you better believe he got what he asked for!
GMB A-LEVEL RESULTS
Like every year, news channels all over the country film A-Level Students receiving their results, but it was GMB who got a little more than they bargained for. Pay close attention and you can clearly see a student drinking from a hip flash – in celebration or defeat? We’ll never know...
